The Song

This song, inspired in Matthew 6:19-21 gives us a contemporary interpretation of the words of Jesus to an unjust society where the gap between rich and poor is getting bigger. The song invites us to open our eyes and take responsible action to change the values of this world to the values of the Kingdom of God. As such, this song is a classic example of the principle of "social holiness" that pervades Wesleyan theology and practice.

This song is part of the DVD Renewing God's creation: Hope and Action Network produced by the Liturgy of the Latin American Council of Churches (www.clailiturgia.org) in collaboration with the Global Praise of the Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church (www.globalpraise.org).

The Prayer

This song is suitable for use as a hymn of commitment and sending forth at the end of worship services. It can also be used in response to the proclamation of the Word.

Consider using part of the refrain (Donde pongas tu tesoro allí está tu corazón / Where your treasure is discovered, there your heart will be as well) as a musical response in between:

Readings of biblical texts on social justice (per example Isaiah 1:10-17, 10:1-4, John 3:17-18 25:25-281 Lv, 1 Tim 6:6-10, James 5:1-6 )
